Sculpture or Architecture?

The Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles, California.
The building was designed by architect Frank Gehry.
293,000 square feet

the exterior is made of 12,500 pieces of steel
no two are identical
cost: $274,000,000
it was completed in october of 2003
When we went to California we thought it would be awesome to go to a concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. So... we checked into it:
"Hey! Let's go to a concert at the Walt Disney."
"Yeah, that would be great!"
"Let's see how much tickets are."
"OK."
"$1200 to $1500."
"Oh well, we tried."

But, we got to see the building.

Wow, what an incredible building. I can't get over those ticket prices. Maybe I should go into music.

I read a very interesting article about his building and the conductor of the LA Symphony. It was basically an interview with the conductor with several questions about the building. The stage floor has several sections of mechanical risers beneath it, so the conductor can get any configuration he or she wishes. Also, it is unique in that there is a balcony that goes around the sides and back of the orchestra making it possible to witness a concert while facing the conductor etc. I'll try to find the article for you.

I thought you might be interested in seeing these. There are 11 pages so be sure to scroll to the bottom and click next. You'll be able to see the inside, and the pipe organ which is very cool.

thanks.
i watched a program on pbs about the hall and there was a part about the construction. the conductor was anxious to hear the sound in the auditorium. so when the building was about half built, they had a sound check with the principal violinist. and it had a great sound. so the conductor says: "Well, now we know that if the sound isn't good when it is completed, we can tear everything out and keep it like this."
unfortunately, when we visited we were not able to see the auditorium. apparently, it still has a great sound.
so thanks for the link.

:)

(Gracen was over at our house tonight, so we looked at your blogs since she can't get them at school. We enjoyed seeing the videos too. Nice work on the 3D animation. That stuff is very difficult.)

I loathe people who don't update their blogs since the 25th of October. It makes me so sad and depressed. Sometimes, I will take long walks, and just think. Why do people not update their blogs? I mean, if you're going to get a blog in the first place, It would be a good thing not let down your faithful blog readers. They are the ones that are there for you, week after week, supporting you with gracious and polite comments. And then, that person just leaves them hanging. I think its so sad. And rude. And CRUEL! I mean, I just don't understand. It hurts. Deep. I think I will leave it at that. I hope that you know that I simply care and want what is best for all bloggers. and beyond.
